My dad (52) is experiencing slight memory loss so we saw a neurologist. After checkup he said he thinks it's due to anxiety and doesn't suspect dementia. He prescribed elm 0.25 and donep5. Follow up after 30 days. Elm is for anxiety but donep is for dementia. I don't understand why he has given medicine on dementia when he clearly said that he doesn't suspect dementia.

If he has not suspected dementia am not sure why donepezil was given. Anxiety is best treated by psychiatrist, kindly consult one. Also get ct scan of brain to rule out dementia. Unnecessary medications is not warranted. Good luck.

Donepezil is helpful in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). It is not dementia. So your doctor might have prescribed it.
