Hello myself dharmendra baraiya from gujarat and my age is 37 years. I am suffering from bipolar disorder since last 10 years and I am on lithium bicarbonate 450 mg, oxcarbazepine 300 mg, nortriptyline 25 mg twice a day, trazodone 50 mg twice a day, fluoxetine 20 mg a day and 5 mg nitrazepam. But although I am getting depressed since from last 10 to 12 days and I would like to know that also whether deep brain stimulation surgery will effective for bipolar patients or not. Please anyone help me out in my this worst condition. Thank you.

This is not surgery ,it is deep brain stimulation therapy come under interventional psychiatry ;this is effective more in Neurotic illness not so much in psychotic ,you can choose ECT ( electro convulsive therapy) .you need get admission & proper titration of medicine should be given.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user, it's really tough to be in a situation which you are going through, would you be able to specify how many manic or hypomanic episodes have you had previously. There are certainly more drugs in our kitty as psychosurgery or dbt are not as evolved yet to address bipolar depression, ect & rtms are also available non invasive options. Don't lose hope, you may definitely fight this out.
