Sir I have been advised mitral valve replacement surgery and presently on medications and one is acitrom 1 mg. I read that as per you now a days better substitutes are available of acitrom due to which less chances of bleeding are there and frequent testing of inr is not required. Can you please suggest the name of those substitutes. I'll be highly grateful. Regards.

Acitrome is not the treatment for your valve defect it is to prevent complications. Go for valve replacement if advised.

No. Acitrom is the only option.

The other substitutes which you are talking about are called NOACS : novel oral anticoagulants! Like dabigatran , apixaban etc Which do not need any INR monitoring and are better than acitrom in terms of bleeding .. but sadly they are not indicated in your case / or any pt who has an metallic valve replacement or rheumatic disease.. so follow your doctors advice !
