I'm using etizola 0.5 for getting relief from stress as per my doctor advise and getting good results. I am using the said medicine since sept 2019 and there is absolutely no side effects. Is it harmful if the said medicine is continued for a longer period. Kindly advise. Rgds jpmohanty.

Yes it is. I am sure it was not prescribed by a psychiatrist. Etizola is a benzodiazepine used for short term control of anxiety. For long term treatment ssris or snris are used as first choice as benzos carry significant side effects on a longer run. Good luck.

Dear j p mohanty I gone through the text and came to know that you are taking etizolam ?5 mg. The dose is not high and continue even for longer period. But question remains what after discontinuation of medication, as you would not like to take it years together. What I would suggest is findout the reason of stress. If it is work related you can tackle it differently, or if it is family or life related it should be addressed according ly. You should focus on how you can resolve the issue. Medicine work well for short term stress but for long term you should think how you can deal with it. Since you have not disclosed the nature of stress I would suggest to continue for short term. In general people use yoga, medication, physical exercise, social network support, relaxation exercise etc to deal with stress.

Dear Lybrate user, I went through your query. Side effect is an inevitable consequence any thing which we use including food products. So we can not say that there are no side effects at all. But most of the approved drugs have minimal or ignorable side effects when compared to the benefit it gives to a person's health. This particular medicine which you have mentioned is relatively safe. Few people may develop tolerance and a tendency to require more dose. And some people may develop memory disturbances if they take it for too long a period like years together. But compare to the other drugs belong to the same group of this medicine, it is a safer one. But however, it needs to be taken under the supervision of your doctor until he suggest you to take. Don't self medicate on your own. Don't loose follow up with your doctor. A periodic follow up with your doctor will help him to assess the possible side effects of a medicine. In such case he will help you with alternative medicines and in the process of reducing and stopping the medicine which causes side effect. Some people may have a tendency to continue the medicine for long periods with out consulting their doctors periodically. Because they may think that the problem is solved and anyhow the doctor is going to prescribe the same medicine, why should we make some unnessesary visits to doctor. This kind of self medicating tendency may lead to some undesirable consequences. So my suggestion is to take the medicine without fear but report your doctor periodically so that he may try to reduce and stop the medicine if it is appropriate. The doctor is equally concerned about the side effects of the medicine as you. Panicking unnessarily about the side effect is also not nessessary as well as continuing a medicine for a long time without the monitoring of your doctor is also is not advisable. Ask this same question to your doctor, he may explain you even more better because he knows you well than me. Be happy.

There is no medicine in this world without side effects. So once the problems are solved medicine needs to be tapered and stopped under proper guidance taking into consideration the problems for which it was started and taking appropriate measures.

No medication is without side-effects. What we consider is the balance between symptom and side-effect. For your case, stress is probably more problematic. Still, if you are worried about any side-effect, consider psychotherapy and see if it works for you.

As with any other drugs it will have certain side effects but nothing much to worry given your age and drug dose.
