I was diagnosed with high bp (150/100) and given along 5 mg. After carrying all body tests, everything was fine. Bp was at 140/90. Doctor changed medicine to telsar a (40/5). I've been taking medication for 1 year now. I changed diet, with minimal salt and proper exercise. Lost 8 kgs and bp now is 120/80. For how long will I have to continue the medicine? If not, can I shift to a light medicine? I am 26 years old. Also, along with bp medication, can I take whey protein (i go to gym) and fish oil capsules? Or should I avoid these?

26 years old and hypertension controlled with two medications. It's good that your bp has been controlled. If your bp remains in the same zone re-education in medications can be tried but gradually keeping in mind that high bp is dangerous. If it is possible to gradually reduce the dose and ultimately off the medications with the same bp control that would be best achievement for you. However you need to evaluate the cause of hypertension in such young age. So that risk factors can be identified and treated properly.

Hello, if you have modified your lifestyle in last 1 year and lost 1 kg weight, we can try to reduce your bp medicines dose. If you have a family history of hypertension, you might need the medicine forever. For now, you can stop amlodepine and shift to plain telsar 40 mg once a day. But, this needs to be done under proper bp monitoring. You have to check your bp daily at least once a day for at least a week. If it starts rising after 3-4 days then shift back to present medicine and consult online. Take care. Stay safe.
