I am 63 years old and suffering from calf pain for last so many years. In diagnosis it was found that I have deficiency of vitamin b12. For the treatment should I consult md (medicine) or a neuro physician doctor. I have earlier taken methycobal injection to get relief but after 1 or 2 years the problem again arise. Could you suggest any remedy for it. Waiting for your reply.

Hello, not necessary that your calf pain is because of b12 deficiency. It could be due to vitamin d3 deficiency or calcium deficiency or lumbar spondylosis. Also an x-ray of your spine would be helpful. Consult me on Lybrate for detailed discussion and consultation.

Hello, your calf pain could be caused by a variety of conditions ranging from vitamin deficiencies, varicose veins and a spine problem. You need to answer some specific questions to differentiate: 1. Is it a calf pain or you get multiple cramps in your calf? 2. Does the calf pain come on after walking and subside on taking rest? 3. Is it associated with tingling and burning sensations on your sole? 4. Do you have any dilated veins on your legs? 5. Do you have any other medical conditions like diabetes, thyroid, peripheral vascular disease and any treatment you are undertaking? For the time being in can only tell you that vitamin b12 being low is one of the causes of calf pain, but not the only one. All other conditions need to be ruled out first before treating your b12 deficiency.
