My father is 68 years having diabetes mellitus and hypothyroidism. Yesterday his blood pressure rise to 188/98. Took amodep at one dose in the morning but bp was still 170/90 after 2 hours. Then one of the doctor prescribed l n block 10 mg and he took that. Later his bp was 140/85 and at night bp was 135/75 without taking any medicine at night. When he get up in morning bp was 130/63 from 5 am to 9 am. Then at around 11. 00 am the bp was 150/71 I just want to confirm which medicine he should take.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. There is no need to check bp so many times a day. The drug amlodepine and the second one clinidepine both belong to same class of drugs. Usually these two together are not given. (both are belonging to ca antagonists class). Amlodepine tends to cause swelling in the lower limbs (pedal edema), where as clinidepine does not cause that. I am a bit surprised that these two are given together. Any ways if bp is controlled you may continue the same. However, there is no mention of his blood glucose levels, hba1c% and tsh leve, to know if those things are well controlled. L thanks.
