Dear lybrate-user, dementia are of many types. I don't know what type of dementia your grandpa is suffering. Majority of dementia at 80s are due to alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia. Cholinesterase inhibitors like donepezil or memantine arrests the progress of these dementias. Other dementias may worsen with these tablets. Neurocetam may help in post head injury or post operative dementias. Dosage depends on his renal and liver functions, other tablets that he is taking, other medical conditions that he is having, etc. Let your doctor decide. Always at his age, it is better to start low and go slow.
