I am 63 yers old with diabetes and hypertension for the last 20 years with body weight of 73 kg and 5.8 inches. I am taking novomix 30 twice a day, once before breakfast 22 units and 14 units before dinner. Pp sugar levels are 175 after 2 hours and 180 after 2 hours of dinner. But after lunch pp is 250 mg/do. I am not taking any other medicines and my total diet is around 1600 kcal. I tried oglibose. 3 mg along with lunch. But it is creating gas problem and no much sugar level reduction after 2 hours of my lunch. Any doctor pl help me by suggesting what to do to get hba1c of 7% instead of presently at 7.3% which is not under good control. Regards prabhakara rao v retired employee of ntpc.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. The glucose levels are by and large quite good except post lunch. That can be adjusted by reducing the caloric intake. Your caloric intake of 1600 cals is high for your daily needs. There is no mention of extent of daily exercises, unless one is doing very vigorous workouts, the presnt caloric intake is high. Because your ideal body weight has to be between 65 to 68 kgs at the most considering the age. So the caloric need has to be ^^ x 20 cals = 1320 cals. So if you reduce the intake glucose levels will definitely come down. As regards recommending a drug for oral use, in this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no drugs can be recommended. Only in private conversation we can do that. Another aspect is you may try and increase the insulin dosage by 2 units and check. Thanks.
