My mother is having diabetic. But just a few months ago she went to the doctor and her doctor prescribed her glycomet gp-2 and voglitor md 0.3.and after my mother taking those pills but the 2nd medicine has troubled her with acid reflux and she was barely eat something. Mean to say don't want to eat anything. And next she had gone again to her doctor and he/she prescribed her glycomet gp-2 forte and dynaglipt m-forte for 24 days and they said her to give her blood and thyroid test. And finally the corona crisis came up. She couldn't be able to go to the doctor. Still my mother is not taking the antidiabetic capsules except the thyronorm 50 mcg. So please tell me the right meds for her disease? Which meds she will be taking?

Hello, thanks for the query. As I understand your mother was prescribed tablet glycomet gp2 & voglibose0, 3 ,mg, then she had problem with voglito tablets. Is that correct? Later doctor gave the other two tablets, now I am not sure whether she took those or is she taking them or did not take at all. She also has hypothyroidism and is on levothyroxine 50 mcg a day. Madam in this there is absolutely no mention of fasting, pp glucose levels, hba1c%, her diet, weight, height, serum creatinine, urea, lipid profile and bp readings. Therefore, it is not at all possible to comment or give any suggestions. I am sure by now most of the pathology labs must have started working, so please get all the earlier mentioned investigations (including thyroid functions) and send those reports plus give other information which I have mentioned. After going through those details I will be able to give specific guidance and even prescribe the necessary drugs. Please understand in case of well controlled diabetes fbg should be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg & hba1c% < 6.5 % if patient is below 60 years. As regards tsh it should be around 3 to 4 mu/l for being free from all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. It is better if you come back with all the necessary details in a private conversation then I can prescribe the drugs too. In this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines. No drugs can be prescribed. So take a quick decision and come back or consult your local physician. Thanks.Â

As she is diagnosed diabetes and prescribed medicines which she could not continue due to any reason. Now get her fasting, pp blood sugar and hba1c test done and consult a physician/endocrinologist in your area, who will prescribe medicines if needed after her clinical evaluation. Also get her tsh test done so that dose of thyronorm may also be adjusted. Â

Dear lybrate-user, we need some more details 1. Duration of diabetes, blood sugar values before starting medicines, any weight loss? 2. Any family history of diabetes in parents brothers or sisters 3.any complications of diabetes eyes, nerves, heart or kidney? 4. What was the first tsh value before she was started on thronorm and did she have tpo antibodies done? In the meantime, you can do the following reduce the quantity of carbohydrate (rice, wheat, rava, maida) in each meal and increase the quantity of protein (dhal, soya, egg white, fish or chicken). Walking 1 hour per day monitor blood sugars with glucometer as follows. Fasting and pp on wednesday and 2 hour after lunch and after dinner on sunday and maintain a record. Target to be achieved: fasting values are > 120 and pp values < 160. If in spite of dietary adjustment your sugar levels continue to be high and if your hba1c is more than 8 % seek a consultation to adjust your anti-diabetic drugs Â
