My father has been taking zoryl m1 in evening and zoryl m2 in night for last 10 years. However the sugar level hasn't been coming down for past 1 year i.e it is around 230 in fasting and 320 in pp. Now for past 1 month, he has started taking zoryl mv2 in morning and night and tendia m in day time before lunch. His sugar level has now come down to 170 in fasting and 230 in pp. His hba1c is 8.4. Please advise for how long he can continue with this combination for sugar control? Please advise if can continue with this combination for further 2 months to bring back the sugar level down? Many thanks. I also take one bp medicine alsartan 50 daily and my bp is under control.

Fasting blood sugar 170 and pp blood sugar 230 is still high. Follow diabetic diet strictly. Exercise regularly. Add some other medicine or start insulin in consultation with your treating physician.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given and understand the concern. However, it is quite surprising that you have waited for one whole year with such high blood glucose levels. I am sure you are aware that in a well controlled diabetes patient FBG should be < 100 mg or close to 100 mg, PP should be 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 7% (for persons with 60 years and above). Therefore, 230 mg & 320 mg are too high levels. What is the HbA1c%? Anyways from the glucose levels it is clear that current treatment needs a complete upgrade. For that I need to know following details : Patients age, weight, height, dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise, current FBG & PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, lipid profile, serum creatinine and urea. Hence, it is better if you come back with all these details in a private conversation then I will be able to give specific guidance and even prescribe necessary drugs. Because in this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no drugs can be prescribed. Thanks.

Diabetic management is not just controlling the sugar alone. Being a diabetic for more than 10 years other parameters also should be taken into account and managed accordingly to asses and prevent complications. So you have to look for private consultation for this for proper control. General diet control is same.

Dear lybrate-user, your father seems to be quite overweight and he may need anti diabetic medications that help with weight reduction. You may have to consult online for further changes to medication in the meantime I suggest the following monitor blood sugars with glucometer as follows. Fasting and pp on wednesday and 2 hour after lunch and after dinner on sunday and maintain a record. If your fasting values are > 120 and pp values go above 180, reduce the quantity of carbohydrate (rice, wheat, rava, maida) in each meal and increase the quantity of protein (dhal, soya, egg white, fish or chicken. If in spite of dietary adjustment your sugar levels continue to be high and if your hba1c is more than 8 % seek a consultation to adjust your anti-diabetic drugs regards.
