I'm on hypertension meds from the age of 29. Currently on amlokind at and my bp remains normal at 130/80. But, my resting heart rate runs between 55-60 most of the time. Is it an effect of beta blockers or do I need to change my medications. Please help.

Hi, as the bp is well controlled you don't need to change the drug currently. Heart rate of 55-60 is ok if their are no symptoms and yes it is because of beta blocker (atenolol). So continue same and keep monitoring your bp. Thanks.

Hi lybrate-user you are diagnosed as hypertension at very young age .and as you mentioned you are on amlokind -at which is a calcium channel blocker. And beta blocker. Your heart rate in this range could be because of betablocker assuming that no other medical condition such as hypothyroid is not present.
