My father is 64 and is diabetic. Presently he takes zavamet 50/500 mg and glucoryl m2 500 mg twice daily each. His hba1c is 7.5 and fasting sugar keeps around 190-205 and pp within 215- 240. Please suggest whether the sugar levels are ok or if medicines are needed to be changed please advice.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned, however, with given glucose levels it is clear that present medication is not adequate. There is a need to upgrade the treatment. Therefore, it is essential to know: his dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise, serum creatinine, urea, lipid profile, bp readings. I am sure you are aware in a diabetic person ideally the fbg should be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg & hba1c% < 7%. Dear lybrate-user, the sugar levels and hba1c are acceptable. I f he tightens up the diet and walks for an hour per day the hba1c will probably come down to about 7 % which is excellent professor m s seshadri.
