I have got my bartholin abscess drained by a doctor under local anaesthesia 3 days back, doctor has asked me to visit for dressing till 20-25 days, where he puts a gauze piece inside the incision made and changes it everyday which is very painful, is this the correct way to stop abscess from accumulating again as he tells me only when internal wound is healed we can leave the outer incision to heal on its own?

The magnitude of the problem will be known to the doctor who performed the surgery, though dressing till 20-25 days appears unusual.

Hello dear Lybrate user! bartholin abscess caused by primary infection of gland or secondary infection of bartholin cyst. Usually it drains with local anaesthesia and applying local antibiotics so now you are in correct path you need to continue post surgical measurements like cleaning the local part, avoid further injuries, strain. Proper cleaning after urination and defication, by following these you can avoid further infections. Must take sitz bath after healing the local wound. It improves blood supply to stop further infections. Stay healthy and happy. Thank you.
