I am 26 years old male. I have been taking thyronorm tablets for the last 9 years. I do my thyroid test twice a year. I did my test recently and tsh value is 21.05. I have been taking 100 mcg medicine since last eight months. Should I continue with same dosage or should I change? Thanks.

Mr Akash, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. I am sure you are aware when some one is on adequate dosage of Levothyroxine TSH is maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L, at which all the symptoms are in check. Since your TSH is quite high, which means current dosage is not adequate. It needs to be increased. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user, it is very common ofr patients with hypothyroidism to forget medicines on 2-3 days a month. I feel this may be the reason why your recent tsh has gone up to 21. Make sure you take the tablet every single day on an empty stomach. You can keep it in the bathroom shelf so that you can take it as soon as you brush your teeth. In case you forget on an occasional day, take it anyway when you remember later in the day. If you forget for a whole day take the extra dose the next day. Follow this advice and recheck free t4 and tsh after 2 months and let me know on an online appointment. If you are someone who never misses tablets and your tsh is 21 on 100 ug per day you have to increase the dose to 112.5 ug per day
