My age is 27 years. I am diagnosed with diabetes. My sugar result is 148 after fasting & 222 after breakfast. Doctors have suggested me to take cetapin xr 500 mg after lunch. Again needs to check after one month. Is it safe to take or any other way to cure diabetes. Please suggest me what should I do. Thanks.

Better to control it with strict diabetic diet and regular exercise and get blood sugar fasting and pp test done after 15 days and if still high then take that pill.

Hello, Thanks for the query. The glucose levels mentioned show that you have diabetes. Once diabetes is diagnosed then the only way to bring down glucose closer to normal levels is through the specific antidiabetic medications. Metformin is one of the safest drugs used for over 65 years to treat. Ideally in a well controlled patient FBG should be < 100 mg & PP 150 to 160 mg and HbA1c%(not mentioned) should be < 6.5%. Another important aspect with regard to your weight and height with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 29.89 kgs/Sq meter (Normal < 23 kgs /Sq meter) you are almost in grade 1 obesity. That means there is an excess of 19 kgs. This the main culprit in glucose control. Your ideal body weight (IBW) should be 65 kgs. Therefore, weight reduction is an absolute necessity. Thanks.
