Can my mother use fresh aloe vera gel for severe stasis dermatitis? She is suffering from chronic venous insufficiency. She is overweight and have high bp. She is applying mupirocin ointment followed by bactigras dressing. She wears compression stocking daily and also keeps her leg elevated.

Hello hope you are keeping safe 1) I understand your concern, aloe vera is just a soothing and moisturizing agent that help in preventing dryness and helps to sooth down itching, it does not treat the condition per say. 2) you can continue applying mupirocin+ bactigras and add in steroidal cream for faster recovery, the potency of which would depend on the severity of eczema. You can also add - antihistamines like cetrizine or atarax to relieve the itching - a medicated non-soap cleanser for bath like cetaphil - multivitamin tablets.(main vit d, zinc, calcium) 3) please keep following her venous insufficiency status, as the symptoms would worsen or wouldn't go away if the underlying problem is not treated. 4) please be aware of a few causes that could aggravate her eczema - certain drugs like diuretics, antibiotics like pencillin, antidiabetic medications like sitagliptin. - foods like citrus, dairy products, nuts, eggs, gluten, tomatoes and spicy foods need to be avoided unless flare up reduces - dust allergy - family history of atopy - contact allergy to some creams or topicals - dehydration causing dry sensitive skin - hot baths - scrubbing of skin - soaps and other detergents.
