Good afternoon doctor. I am a 58 year old hypothyroid female patient. I am taking thyrox 75 mcg 1 tab daily for the last 1 year. My current thyroid profile shows tsh 6.65, total t3 77 and total t4 8.6. I am having chronic constipation, lethargy and hot flashes. Do I need dose adjustment?

Hello, Thanks for the query. Madam when hypothyroidism is well controlled TSH is around 3 to 4 mU/L, at that level most of the symptoms are in check. Therefore, with TSH at 6.65 mU/L, your current dosage needs to be increased by at least 12.5 mcg to 87.5 or 88 mcg. This strength tablets are available. So you have to increase the dose then check TSH again after 6 to 8 weeks to see if desired level is achieved. That will relieve all the hypothyroid related symptoms..
