I got infected with viral eye conjunctivitis caused by herpes virus around 1.5 years ago. I have been using fml liquifilm along with tacrolimus ointment. But as soon as I stop using them both for about 4-5 days, I start to develop a bit blurred vision, and as soon as I start using them again, I get my clarity back. Should I stop using fml or should I continue it?

Dear lybrate-user, ideally you should not use fml eye drops for too long. Fml is a mild steroid and prolonged usage of these drops have certain side effects. However, I do understand what you are saying about the problem recurring. Maybe you should consult your doctor and there could be alternatives to fml which you can use for long periods of time without the side effects.

Fml is a steroid drops .long term use may cause complication s like cataract and glaucoma. So it better to stop it. You said that as soon as you stop medications blurring occurs. It may be that you have developed sub epithelial keratitis. It occurs when you use steroid drops in viral keratitis. It will take a long time to go and may recur. So slowly reduce the medications and stop them. Along with use lubricating eye drops like soft drops or reflex eye drops. Lubricating drops as such do not cause problems. Wear sun glasses when you go outside.
