Thyroid since few months. Tsh was 6.my Dr. suggested 50 mcg thyronorm weekends. 25 mcg weekdays. I feel its high dosage.

Madam, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. A few things need to be clarified. Please let me what are the reasons for checking thyroid functions? Are you having any specific symptoms related to hypothyroidism? Because tsh 6 mu/l does not usually warrant any treatment. Tsh 6 to 9.9 mu/l is considered as subclinical hypothyroidism and invariably no treatment is advised. However, if a person has troublesome symptoms associated with hypothyroidism are present then treatment is initiated. Secondly if tsh is not too high but the anti tpo antibodies are increased then also it is considered as hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht) and treated as hypothyroidism. So please clarify. Usually when tsh goes > 10 mu/l treatment is necessary. Plus to decide the dosage it is essential to know weight, height and t4 levels. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
