Hello, my current hba1c stands at 5.9. Average blood sugar at fasting is 95-105 and after dinner is 135-150. I'm currently on the dose of metformin hydrochloride sr of 500 mg and wants to reduce it. I'm following all the precautions with brisk walks. Whether metformin hydrochloride sr 250 mg should be taken after breakfast once in a day or it should be taken twice a day i.e.one in morning after breakfast and one in evening after dinner or it is sufficient to take only one in a day after breakfast in the morning as asked above. This question regarding the dose arises as hba1c is under control and I want to reduce the dose of metformin hydrochloride sr 500 mg tablet to 250 mg tablet.

Hello lybrate-user sir. Thanks for the query. You have not mentioned how frequently you take the medicine once or twice a day. If you are taking it twice then start 250 mg sr in morning after breakfast and 500 mg sr after dinner. If you are taking it once please mention the time when you are taking. So that dose can be adjusted accordingly.

Hello, Thanks for the query. The details given show that you have excellent control of blood glucose. So why not continue the same? What is your weight, height, dietary pattern a and extent of daily exercise? Since the control is so very good with present dosage, I really do not see why take a chance and get in to a situation where glucose levels will go up again? Thanks.
