Hello lybrate-user, it was nice of you to do the blood test and unfortunately you have diabetes. Your hba1c is quite high and it shows that either your body is not producing enough insulin or your insulin can't work in the right way due to insulin resistance. You definitely needs medicine but that itself doesn't solve the problem. Lifestyle modification is the cornerstone. In order to determine what can be done for you a consultation is advised where a careful history including family history has to be elicited. Doctors usually categorise diabetes to type 1 or type 2 based on the cause as there are different approaches to both of these. High blood sugar affects your body in different ways. Blood becomes more thick and syrupy and could limit your blood flow to heat, nerves and kidney which could result in complications in the future. But if well controlled you could have a pretty good lifestyle. Doctors could give you directions and options for this and you may decide what you need. Hope this helps.
