I was prescribed sertraline but I haven?t taken it yet because on the package it says don?t take if you have ever had a seizure. I am worried that I may have a seizure 5 years ago after smoking weed (concerned it could?ve been laced with k2 or something else) but maybe it was just a panic attack. After smoking my arms, legs and body were uncontrollable shaking and jerking, etc with chest pain and palpitations. I had feelings like my mouth was bubbling/foaming but could have possible made that up in my mind? Do you think I should be worried about that since the medication says don?t take if you have had a seizure? Or do you think the sertraline (zoloft) is safe?

Dear Jake, i hope you told about your "weed trip" to your doctor. She/he would have assessed your physical condition and then would have prescribed sertraline. Sertraline does not induce seizure in all patients. It is very rare and that too in high dose. As you yourself have told that it may be a panic attack, your chances of sertraline induced seizure may be much less.

Sertraline is safe at least safer than weed. Please take.

Sertraline is a lot safer than weed. You can take it if you are prescribed for a reason. It won't harm you. Also before taking any illicit substance like weed you must read a lot and than in the end you should decide to not to take it. On the contrary, while a medicine is prescribed by an expert than you should trust him/her and should stop googling.

Sertraline is very safe medicine. You will not have a seizure episode with this medicine. Moreover the seizure episode which you mentioned now might not be a true seizure but a pseudo- seizures. Since you have stopped taking cannabis now you don’t need to worry about a repeat episode like that. And now you can take sertraline fearlessly.

I think that your seizure when using weed was induced by it. It appears that weed does not agree with you and so those reactions. You had, in other words, a bad trip. Sometimes, it could also mean that you had some susceptibility to anxiety and the uses of the weed precipitated it. Therefore, it is advisable that you take sertraline and follow your doctor's instruction faithfully. I also recommend that you meet with a counselor and go through some therapy as well. In therapy, you will learn a lot of skills and techniques that will equip yourself for life.
