Hi lybrate-user, gum recession can be due various reasons. Mostly it is due to deposits form on your teeth. These deposits need to be cleaned manually no ointment or medicine will help without cleaning. Only till certain stage it is reversible, if gum recession reaches to advanced stage it becomes irreversible even surgery will not be able to restore it completely. My advise for you that don't waste your time in home remedies. Take proper treatment from a dentist along with that you continue home remedies like rinsing with tolerable hot water with salt in it at least 4-5 times a day.
