Dear Snigdha, Borderline personality disorder needs a variety of treatment depending on the need at that particular time. They usually don't ask for treatment of their personality weaknesses. They come with deliberate self harm, they come with relationship issues, they come for marital counselling, etc. Using a mood stabiliser like Lamitor and an antidepressant like prothiaden is okay, if at that particular time of your life needs it. Anyhow, you need to take dialectical or cognitive behaviour therapy in addition.

Lamitor od is not first choice for borderline personality disorder, there are better mood stabilisers. Also prothiaden is not the first choice antidepressant, ssri's like fluoxetine and escitalopram are. They might have been selected for a reason and both medicines being prescribed also help, so don't worry and take the same as advised and attend review. Also always combine with cognitive behavioural therapy for borderline personality disorder. Good luck.

Hi lybrate-user there is no medication approved to treat any personality disorder. Actually there is almost negligible role of medicines in any pd. It can just provide some symptomatic relief in crisis situation or can benefit only few symptoms of pd like impulsivity and intensity of anger/violent outburst. The only treatment approved for pd is psychological intervention and for eupd, it's dbt. So it's in your best interest if you can consult a clinical psychologist in-person and start sessons with him/her. Remember it is quite prolonged and tedious process where you need to keep patience and the actual onus of getting better lies in you only, as it actually needs a lot of mental exercise to get better of one's personality. Don't discontinue medicines with out assistance of a psychiatrist, other wise it may lead to relapse of some of the symptoms which may cause you distress. I wish you stay healthy.
