I have a tightness in my upper abdomen since 3 years. It is anxiety. Recently I was given librax and now I switched to zepam 6 mg which is bromazepam. I take 2 doses of 1.5 mg per day. For how long should I take it because it drugs me and how should I taper it off when I decide to stop. Any other recommendations? In short I do not like medication.

Hi lybrate-user any medication belonging to benzodiazepine group has addiction potential especially when taken for a prolonged period of time. There is high possibilty of some withdrawal symptoms especially after stopping abruptly. So the best way is to taper gradually over few weeks and then stop. In your case if the tabs are scored then make the morning one half and then after 2 week make the evening one half, stop the morning half after 2 weeks and then the evening half after 2 weeks. The first line medication for anxiety disorder which are safe even in the long term, with minimal adverse effect is ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). If you face any issue, it's better to consult a psychiatrist in-person. I wish you stay happy and healthy!
