Please kindly help doctors. I am 24 years old with high myopia over - 12.25. My retina is weak. I am getting lots of flashes and floaters. I will undergo barrage laser tomorrow. How to prevent myself from retinal detachment? Is there any treatment available in india or entire world such that I can strengthen my retina. I am having regular checkup at aravind eye hospital, coimbatore since 4 years of age. They are only diagnosing disease. They are not giving medicines or any other further treatment to improve or strengthen retina. What to do?

I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you. Yes, in many cases an eye doctor can repair a damaged retina. While a patient may not experience completely restored vision, retinal repair can prevent further vision loss and stabilize vision. It's important that patients get treatment for their damaged retinas as soon as possible. Let's connect over a call so that we can discuss your concern in details and make a suitable treatment plan for you.

Hello. I can say that it is unfortunate to be at your place right now. But I can assure you that you must be getting the right treatment only at the esteemed hospital. Laser barrage is done only to seal the area of retinal tear which can possibly prevent its conversion to a full retinal detachment. Progression of the disease is due to the growth of the eyeball and its related changes. Even if retinal detachment occurs, surgery is attempted to re-attach it so that a normal useful vision can be restored (which might not be the initial vision you had). I am sorry to tell you this but there is no treatment (medical or surgical) to strengthen the retina per se. You can reach me out anytime for consultation. A photographic or telephonic information about all your previous documentation by the doctors can help me to guide you further about all the treatment options you might have. Will be happy to help. Thank you.
