I am 23 years old. I have -3.5d and -4.0d in my left and right eye respectively. I had got it tested 2 months ago. I also had oct (fundus) examination of eye, on which ophthalmologist saif that there are no pathological degeneration. Is there any possibility that my myopia will increase above -5.0d in any of the eye, within an year from now?

I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you. Your myopia will progress whether you're wearing glasses or not. The only thing glasses do is change the way light enters the eye so it hits the retina on the right spot for clear vision. That's it. Your vision will change because either your eyes are still growing or the curvature of the cornea changes due to age. Let's connect over a call so that we can discuss your concern in details and make a suitable treatment plan for you.

Hello. By no amount of expertise or years of experience an ophthalmologist can predict if your myopia will increase above 5 dioptre. But yes since you are still in the growth phase of your life (23 years) chances are that it might. Pathological degenerations in retina are more severe in high myopia (more than -8 d), but more commonly found in moderate myopes as an incidental finding during routine eye check-ups. Timely treatment with laser therapy can prevent from developing any kind of retinal detachment. But it’s important that you get routinely checked up for that. Before suggesting you the frequency of your follow up, I would like to know if any of your parents had the same issue? Did they get operated for any eye surgery? Do you currently experience any symptoms of floaters or flashes? What is the increase in your eye power usually say in 6 months or 1 year duration? You can reach me out anytime for consultation. Will be more than happy to give a personalised guidance. Hope this helps. Thank you.
