Yes, this has no cure but it is possible to help her manage her life better with therapy. If someone can make her get into a normal routine of exercise, good diet, stress-free lifestyle, and sleep, there is a possibility of her becoming somewhat functional, even if partially. You need to check if her visual memory is better or audio memory is better. Depending on that you could use visual clues or audio clues to make her do things in a schedule of very functional routines. I don't know if there were any mitigating circumstances to precipitate this condition two years ago. If so, I recommend that the emotional effects of that experience may be dealt with and her handling of emotions may also be taught her to better deal with life. Don't gire up: and passivity is criminal generally.

Aiims is not the last resort for all of the cases. Even though it is one of the finest hospitals it is an allopathic hospital and thus has all the limitations allopathy has. Homoeopathy can be the answer many a time to cases that are considered incurable by allopathy. I may not promise a full recovery but try to help to improve her quality of life. You may send me her reports and speak directly over the call. Take care, good luck.

Dear lybrate-user, caring for a person with dementia can be really challenging and I appreciate your efforts caring for your mother. Coming to the medical issue now, are you sure that she has dementia. Usually in dementia the person’s brain looks smaller in size than other non-demented people. Daxid is an ssri which is used to treat anxiety and depression. Though I am not sure why your mother is started on it, it’s not uncommon for dementia patients to develop anxiety or depression. For example, just think that you have no memory of what you did in the last 1 week. Won’t it make you scared, fearful and anxious? There is no medication currently in the market which can reverse or stop progression of dementia. If someone is saying so, he or she is outright lying and trying to take advantage of the already suffering patient and their family. The medications which are available slow the progression to a certain extent and some other medications can control behavioural symptoms like shouting, becoming physically agitated etc. In case you have any more queries, do not hesitate to contact me on email Thanks and power to you.

Daxid is given for emotional and behavioural problems in dementia. If it a alzheimer’s dementia there are medications to slow down the disease progress. If it is vascular dementia the outcome is much better. There is no terminology called nerves becoming dry, am not sure why they told you. Also their seems to be no medicines for dementia per se. It is wise to get a second opinion from any other astute psychiatrist either in person or online. Good luck.

Dear Kunti kumari, Sorry to hear that your mother is diagnosed with dementia. Daxid will be helpful to some extent - but not to the level of how she was few years back. Depending on the type of dementia, few other tablets may be given so that she will not worsen in her behaviour and memory.
