Can metformin be taken daily for non diabetic person, because I have read that it is good for age related decline of elderly. If yes what should be daily dosage of 80 years old, 65 kg male with htn, ptca stent.

It could not to be taken generally for normal nondiabetic person bcz it can cause endocrinal gland disorders like as pancreatitis, liver dysfunctions, weakness, vertigo, nausea etc.

Hello, thanks for the query. As far as metformin is concerned it is mainly used for treating diabetes in both men and women. Plus it is used in treating pcod (poly cystic ovarian disease) in women. But there are no confirmed indications for use in elderly other than for diabetes. Thanks.

Current indication of metformin is for diabetes. It’s also given in people who have pre diabetes and in women who have pcos. It can also been given in women for ovulation induction. Although there is data suggesting that long term effects of metformin has other benefits other than in diabetes.
