I am taking d-venlor 50 and valium 5 mg each per day for depression and anxiety issues for a long time but it has become more like a habit than actual helping in such condition because even if I skip those tablets for 2-3 days nothing changed in my life and I am still being very focused and healthy but after 72 hours withdrawal syndrome starting to appear. I have gained a lot of weight in the last few months though and I spoke to my doctor to change it or stop medication because I am far from those days in the past but I think my doctor is not good enough for helping me in my condition and I stop visiting him. Can you help me stop taking these medications for good as I want to live a normal life without being dependent on such things which are not helpful now?

Dear lybrate-user, stopping the doctor's follow up is not a good idea. He helped you during the depression. He will help you in withdrawing these tablets also. Visit him without stopping and discuss about withdrawing. What symptoms are you getting after 72 hours of stopping? They may be due to untreated depression rather than withdrawal syndrome. Your doctor will be able to assess them properly and do the needful. Weight gain is more with depression than with d-venlor. Find out the causes of weight gain and go in for its treatment without depression.

Hi lybrate-user, I understand that you are facing problems related to your mood. The problem which your having can be controlled to great extent by the medication which you are taking. Usually a psychiatrist will base his judgement to use the medications based on your symptoms and signs which were noted during your consultation. Your psychiatrist will be following a management plan to help you. Coming to side effects, almost all the medication have them, in your case the best way to reduce the weight gain is to do regular exercise and being mindful of your food. These medications should not be self managed. I would also like to add a point her, tab d-venlor does not cause dependence. If the medication is not used for adequate period and at adequate dosage, the disease returns. I guess that is what is happening in your case. I strongly suggest you to visit a psychiatrist and let him/ her take a call on the medications. Hope this helps you in taking a informed decision. Thank you.

Dear user, nervousness or anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure.
