Dear doctors at present I am using one reclide 40 tablet daily before dinner, for my type 2 diabetics control, by using this tablet my bsl is in normal range only recently I checked fbs 88, pp1 134 after 2 hours of lunch and pp3 103 after 2 hours of dinner ,shall I continue to use this tablet? Or shall I discontinue after some time say one month or so. Also I am following the diet pattern and exercises .i am aiming for reversal of diabetes without medicine. So .pl advise.

I think you should use the medicine after breakfast, not before dinner. And to answer your question properly you should check fvs ppbs hba1c serum creatinine urinere with serum lipid profile. You can take online consultation with me if you want.

It is quite hard to reverse diabetes as there is no proven therapy to regenerate the dead beta cells. What most call diabetes reversal is actually remission which means a disease free period. Reclide 40 is gliclazide which helps to release insulin from your pancreas. It could cause beta cell failure rapidly and hypoglycemic episodes; it is not suggested as a monotherapy or first line therapy. Metformin could be more beneficial. Remember, diabetes mellitus is a chronic progressive disease and lifestyle modifications and medications will help you to lead a better life.

Once you achieve a stable blood glucose level, you need to keep taking the medications. Discontinuing diabetes medications will increase blood glucose levels and damage kidneys and nerves at a faster pace. No amount of dietary restriction and/or exercise is sufficient to keep blood glucose level at a stable rate without medication.
