Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. At 5ears your fasting, pp & hba1c% all are high. This suggests that current treatment needs to be up graded. To give appropriate advise I need following information like height, dietary pattern, lipid profile, serum creatinine & urea as well as bp readings. It is better if you come back with these details in a private conversation, then I will be able to give specific suggestions and also prescribe the necessary medication if required. In this communication we are supposed to give only general advice. No drugs can be recommended. At your age much stricter glucose control is necessary like fbg < 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg, hba1c% < 6.5%. This helps in preventing or postponing long term complications associated with diabetes affecting various vital organs and tissues therefore, if you are looking for online help please do come back with above details as mentioned. Or please do consult your local physician as achieving a strict glucose control is absolutely vital. Thanks.Â

If your renal function is ok add metformin 500 mg at lunch time. Also other medications like voglibose or acarbose are helpful, especially in controlling postprandial rise. It is better to consult a doctor before you make changes. Cheers AbrahamÂ
