My mother ambika nair is diabetic for over 35 years. Her sugar levels are in control. The recent test was 107 fasting and 130 pp. She is feeling burning sensation thorough out her body. Hands .feet. And mainly in the private parts. Last year june she has the same problem and a senior consultant checked and told it's a neurological issue and gave her tablets like pregeb and free others. She was cured completely. Now again the same problem has started and the same doctor has started with korar dose of tablets. When burning sensation increases she is taking paracetamol and it is giving relief but she is in lot of pain and anxiety. What could be the possible cause for this?

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details. However, there are no details like hba1c%, serum creatinine, urea, lipid profile and bp readings. Usually burning sensation occurs as a part of peripheral neuropathy. So I need to know what is the current treatment for diabetes and plus any other drugs being taken. Thanks.

Sorry to know that your mother is in pain, burning sensation could be due to diabetes ,rapid correction of blood sugars or kidney related issues. Please check her body weight, blood pressure and serum creatinine. Muscle pain could be a part of neuropathy and if there is stiffness relaxants like baclofen or tizanidine could help. Non opioid pain medication like tramadol which is safe in diabetes could be added to paracetamol. Burning sensation may respond to medications like gabapentin, carbazepinr, amitriptyline etc. Please consult a doctor who takes a good history and physical exam and treat accordingly. Thanks.
