Dear Lybrate user, it must be hard going through depression. With regard to medication it's best to consult a psychiatrist. But i'll also suggest that you go for psychological counseling/ therapy. Therapy will help you manage depression with certain strategies and techniques. Especially cognitive behaviour therapy is proven and widely used to treat depression. Therapy will also help you in the long term. Once you've learned to manage, you can also reduce your dependence on medications. Please consult a psychologist. If you need help you can contact me as well on Lybrate. Regards, aaradhana reddy.

For ibs with depression there is a specific combination of medication which works. The doctor has tried regular antidepressants which though are good, for some may not improve well, and as you said may have tolerability issues. Consult an astute psychiatrist online or in person. Good luck.

Dear Sam, Every antidepressant including dosulepin has a role in treating IBS. Since dosulepin acts on two different neurotransmitters, it might be helpful for you. Please try adequate dose and for at least 6 weeks before discarding it as useless.
