I am a 70 year old male with t2d for the last 19 years. My doctor has prescribed under met 1000 mg bid and glycinorm od 30 bid. With this now my hba1c is less than 6% for the last 8 months. I am regularly exercising and have diet control. However the doctor is not reducing the drugs inspite of my request. What should the reduced dosage of the above drugs now be? So that I can request the doctor.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. Usually at your age hba1c% recommended is < 7%. However, if you are maintaining < 6% hba1c% means the control is excellent. If you have no problems or no troublesome issues of getting hypoglycemic episodes (glucose going < 70 mg), then there is no reason to reduce the drugs. Maintaining a lower glucose level and hba1c% is quite helpful in preventing any possible complications associated with diabetes. But if you have any time encountered hypoglycemia (low glucose) then reducing one of the medications can be looked at. Thanks.
