Present omicron wave is not that serious and doesn't cause damage to lungs which is a good news with almost zero mortality. So nothing to worry and moreover this has conferred herd immunity. So in a way this is the climax of pandemic. Although we need to continue with basic hygiene precautions and masking in crowded conditions and social distancing for some time as new variants may come from time to time.

The covid virus is undergoing mutation or genetic changes quite often at different communities and countries --and we know names of some variants which acquired some special qualities like high infectivity; high mortality rate etc. These are spreading at high pace at some countries-- at some period -which we call as waves.---the major variants during such a wave ---for eg -omicron in 3rd wave in india --it's characters are said to be the character of that wave -for eg -the third wave in india had high infectivity but the mortality rate is comparatively low. Eventhough ,we cann't predict the future of covid --due to its' very special characteristics -- let us hope that ---just like any epidemic or pandemic-- this also may come down after few waves and peaks and may continue as an endemic diisease. Preventive steps are the same -basic respiratory and environmental hygeine ---social distancing ; wearing masks properly ;hand hygeine by washing hands as prescribed ----with soap and water and use of sanitisers of hand regularly. Good ventilation of houses and common areas also is important. Isolation of patients and quarantine of contacts are important.-----sentinel surveillance at such centres-- for new variants have to be continued. Supportive and symptomatic treatment of patients and those with post covid syndrome are also important-- special care for elderly; those with co-morbidities are to be continued--continuous vaccination at all levels have to be continued --.research to find out more potent new vaccines; effective medicines and new viral control measures also are needed. Thank you for asking this very important question--
