Hi I am 20 years old suffering from generalized anxiety disorder I never had it before but recently have it since october. I have no stresses in life, they are unexpected. I get panic attacks every month. But am able to control with xanax however it gives me heavy sleep paralysis. Which other medication would be good, one doctor offered me anti depressants like citalopram but I am convinced it will make my condition worse and I don't wanna deal with the sexual side effects.

Dear Arushi, At this young age of 20 years, your anxiety disorder needs to be treated by jacobson's deep muscle relaxation or therapy or yoga pranayama. You can not depend on xanax. Not only sleep paralysis with xanax, but also you should be aware of dependence on xanax. Antidepressant is a better treatment than xanax. Only problem is, it takes 2-3 weeks to reduce your anxiety. There are antidepressants without sexual side effects. Sexual side effect with citalopram will not happen in majority of persons. Are you married? i see that you are a girl.
