For last 1 year I have been under medication of uvox 50 mg. Prescribed by the doctor. Is this type of medicine can be stopped. It feels like very addictive as I tried to stop for at least for 2 day. Feeling mood swings, anxiety, fatigue. Can this be stopped abruptly. Or normally how long does it takes?

Uvox is known to cause severe discontinuation symptoms and all these symptoms are due to sudden discontinuation. It is not due to addiction but due to body's adaptation to medications. Now the medication needs to be stopped gradually. So, I would like you to restart at a lower dose of 25 mg for another 1 month and see if your depressive symptoms / obsessions come back and if no such symptoms recur, you can take medicine for another 1 month on alternate days 25 mg and then stop.

Hi lybrate-user! these medications are not supposed to be stopped suddenly without the advice of the doctor, provided you need to stop them with the less dosage slowly, but doctor's advice is required. Regards, psy. Msv.

You have a very serious condition and none of the medications can be stopped abruptly without consulting your doctor. You may have to be on medication for many years. However, if you combine medication with therapy, it is possible to reduce the medicines over a period of time. This can only happen if you cooperate, which is already looking a non-starter. You need the help of your family members too. Although you have not mentioned your age, your prognosis is dependent on your age and cooperation. You definitely need the counseling to get the best results. But please plan a long haul for recovery.

Hello Lybrate user, hope you r doing good .in psychiatric illness the course of medicine is long & depending upon the severity of the illness. Hence we can not stop the medicines by our own. Need to do regular follow up with the psychiatrist. When the symptoms will decrease the Dr. will decrease the dose of medicine but we can not stop it directly, it will take time .i can understand your problem but don't worry. Thank you & have a speedy recovery.

Madam you have to be under supervision of psychiatrist, especially when you are attempting discontinuation. Apart from severe anxiety and withdraw you may have relapse of symptoms (which will be difficult to control) so please visit your psychiatrist.
