Hello lybrate-user. Viral conjunctivitis is a problem which takes time (more than 2-3 months) to completely resolve. Viral conjunctivitis tends to cause lesions on the cornea which in turn lead to the symptoms of irritation, redness and foreign body sensation. The drops that have been given are appropriate and the dosing is accurate. In the dose prescribed to you, there is no risk of side effects if used as advised by the treating doctor. Long term persistent use (for a year or more) would cause side effects. So do not worry. For you, I have a few more suggestions regarding viral conjunctivitis. (1) be sure to wash your eyes 4-5 times day with clean hands and clean water in a gentle manner. (2) avoid rubbing your eyes with fingers, cloth, handkerchief, etc. (3) use a disposable paper napkin every time you feel discomfort in the eyes. (4) be patient. Visit your eye specialist regularly and follow the medication given to you in a disciplined manner. This will ensure that your problems are solved sooner than later. Hope my my suggestions helped you. Let me know if you require further help. Take care.
