Hello. Glaucoma is a condition usually caused by raised intra-ocular pressure that affects the field of vision in the eye. I am sure that appropriate medications must have been prescribed to keep the eye pressure under control. Coming to your question, I would like to suggest a few precautions and a few exercises to avoid raising the intra-ocular pressure. Avoid exercises that raise your eye pressure: (1) certain breathing exercises (eg. Pranaayam, valsalva technique-the art of exhaling with closed mouth as well as pinched nose) tend to increase the intra-ocular pressure. This should be avoided strictly by patients who have glaucoma. (2) lifting heavy weight should be avoided. This is because carrying heavy objects (more than 5 to 6 kilograms) would tend to increase the intra-ocular pressure. (3) exercises involving vigorous jumping should be avoided. (4) at times, high altitude (mountain travel) may cause increased intra-ocular pressure. This should preferably be avoided. To conclude, glaucoma can be controlled but to get complete cure is honestly not possible. Likewise, taking adequate care and regular follow-up with your eye specialist should be sufficient to keep it under control. It is sometimes a hereditary problem. Thus, children of parents suffering from glaucoma should get their eyes checked regularly as well. Similarly, grand children should also get their eyes screened to rule out glaucoma or its effects. Hope my suggestions help you, take care, regards.
