Do people have to wear retainers for lifetime after teeth correction with braces? I am thinking of using braces, but not willing to use retainers for whole lifetime.

No sir, it totally depends on the patient's tooth and jaw structure. You should probably visit your orthodontist and get your treatment plan.

Retainers are compulsorily worn after complete Ortho Treatment.
Duration of Wearing Retainers depends on your dental and skeletal status.

It is not mandatory that we have to wear a retainer for a lifetime. It is required a minimum of 6months, 1 year ........

If I tell you my story, my ortho completed after two years of braces, and 4 extractions, and I did not wear the retainer at all, but I was ready to accept the fact that the chances are always there that there will be slight movement of teeth, which happened also, but I am okay with it.

So you got to take a decision on the basis of, the level of malocclusion in your case, what is your expectation, and are you ready for slight change even after years of ortho treatment, also on what your orthodontist think.

Hello lybrate-user. Retainers can be fixed too. It's not necessary you will need a removable retainer. Which retainer you will need will depend upon your case. Even when we give removable retainer to stabilize the teeth, is stopped after 6 months or a year. But if the patient's teeth start to move again after stopping retainer, then the patient needs to wear it again. Fixed retainers are invisible & are bonded on the teeth from inside.
