I am 75 years old. I have sugar level of 118 (fasting) and 180 post prandial. Of late I have been getting intermittent joint pains, especially in the right shoulder. Doctor says it could be due to diabetes and I should start taking diabetic drug. I want the second opinion. If I have to take drug, what drug and dosage?

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. You have mentioned fasting & pp glucose levels, both show you are in a pre-diabetes state. It is better if hba1c% is also done. Diabetes is diagnosed when fbg is 126 mg/100 ml or above, or pp 200 mg and above & hba1c% 6.5% and above. As regards shoulder pain, in diabetes particularly if it is not well controlled there can be a conditions called "frozen shoulder" can develop. That will need proper glucose control, exercise and some times pain killers too. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
