Hi doctor I had my pilonidal cyst removed with a wide excision surgery on june 16th. Removed stitches on 28th. I still cannot sit down properly, experience some pain at the site and body weakness. I take paracetamol daily to reduce the pain. I tried aceclofenac last week, but after that there was a reddish yellow watery discharge. It gradually subsided. This discharge was there the first week after the surgery (at that time I was taking antibiotics with painkillers including aceclofenac as prescribed by my doctor), but it was colourless. I feel lethargic a lot, cannot move about much. What should I do? Is this normal?

Hello. The results of a pns (pilonodal cyst/sinus) surgery depends a lot upon the type of surgery done. After wide excision was it closed primarily, or was a rotation flap made (limbergs) etc etc. There is a big list of procedures which can be done depending upon the surgeons preference and the patient factor. Regarding pain it can occur a few months after surgery as it's a pressure point. Try using a soft piles cushion or a doughnut for sitting. Regarding discharge (ideally shouldn't be there), it can be a seroma (especially if a flap has been made) or it can be a wound infection. I don't think there is anything to worry. If the discharge is continuous then consult your operating surgeon. Keep the area clean and dry. Regards.

If there is discharge from the region, probably it could be recurrence of pilonidal sinus or local infection. Kindly get clinical examination by surgeon for exact diagnosis and further plan of management.

Feeling lethargic. It's just because you are eating less after surgery. And if discharge persists then see a doctor whether it's a seroma or a recurrence or a pus discharge. You can get treatment for same.

Hi lybrate-user, if you are not feeling well and healthy even after one month of surgery, you need to see your surgeon immediately to rule out any collection under the stitch, treatment of pilonidal sinus requires extensive surgery and also sometimes we expect delayed recovery. However, if apart from discharge, you are having the symptoms you are experiencing ,u should have preview check up at the earliest. Hope it will be helpful for you.
