I am 32 years old and I have suffered from the flu. I was unable to smell anything and this is too irritating. I am gradually recovering from the flu but I still can't smell anything. I have recently come across the word anosmia and I am afraid now. Doctor please can you help me in knowing how I can restore my sense of smell?

If common cold, sinus infection or allergies are the reason for loss of smell, it can be restored on its own when the infection ends. Meanwhile, brain tumours or head trauma can become a reason for permanent loss of smell. If anosmia or loss of smell occurs in old age people, it might be possible that it remains forever as it can't be treated after an age.
