I am mother of a two year old girl. She is suffering from autism spectrum disorder. Doctor has advised few therapies for her. I don't why she is born with this disease. There is no such family history at my side or at my husband's family. Doctor please tell me what is the main cause of autism?

There is no specific known cause behind the autism spectrum disorder. Causes may depend on the symptoms and its severity. These include: 1) genetics: genetic disorder, such as rett syndrome, can be a cause in some children. While in others, genetic changes may become a reason for a child being an autistic. 2) environmental factors: though this has not been proved yet whether viral infections, complications during pregnancy, or air pollutants play a part in a child getting prone to autism spectrum disorder but it is believed that these might be the causes.
