Doctor I am a 36 years old female. I am suffering from hypothyroidism that has been recently diagnosed. I have heard that there is no cure for thyroid and a person has to live with it for their entire life. Is it true doctor? Can hypothyroidism be cured?

There is no cure for hypothyroidism but treatment can keep the condition in control and you can lead a normal life. Treatment of hypothyroidism has only one option which is thyroid replacement medication (synthetic drug for example levothyroxine). Meanwhile there are few various options for treating hyperthyroidism. These include: anti thyroid drugs such as propylthiouracil and methimazole, beta blockers, radioactive iodine, surgery (thyroidectomy).
