Doctor I am 38 (f) I am going under a lot of stress these days due to my office. For the past few months I have noticed that I am facing a severe headache during my menstrual periods. I have read that this could be a migraine. Doctor please tell me what are the types of migraines and what are its symptoms?

There are several types of migraine. The most common ones are migraine with aura and migraine without aura. Migraine types include: menstrual migraine (headache due to menstrual period), silent migraine (having aura symptoms without headache), vestibular migraine (vertigo, nausea, and vomiting with or without headache), abdominal migraine (often occurs in children and causes stomach pain, nausea and vomiting), hemiplegic migraine (weakness at one side of the body or short paralysis. Numbness, dizziness or vision changes are also few symptoms), ophthalmic migraine (it causes short-lived, partial or complete loss of vision in one eye. You should immediately get medical assistance if you see any vision change), migraine with brainstem aura (loss of balance, dizziness or confusion before the headache starts. This may be followed by severe headache, trouble speaking and vomiting. This is often related to hormone change and is more common in young adult women), status migrainosus (severe migraine type and you may need hospitalization due to intense pain and nausea), and ophthalmoplegic migraine (pain and muscle paralysis around the eye).
