My mother is having auditory hallucinations and she is prescribed by a physician these medicines. Her age is 55. 1. Flutee (fluoxetine) 20 mg tab 1 tablet once daily in the morning for 10 days 2. close md 0.25 tablet twice daily for 10 days. 3. Nexito (escitalopram) 10 mg at bed time for 10 days. Is this fine? Or should I consult a psychologist. And if I give her these medicines are there any chances of side effects? This is safe or not? Please help.

Hi lybrate-user, if she is actually having auditory hallucinations, then these are not the right drugs for her. Probably the physician has mis-diagnosed her. It's in your best interest if you take her to a psychiatrist who will assess her and will probably start on antipsychotic medicines after confirming the diagnosis.

Hello. If your mother is experiencing auditory hallucinations then these medicines are not the best choice as these are more useful in depression. Also, if these hallucinations have started recently then she might need a brain imaging like mri. I would suggest kindly consult a psychiatrist for these problems as soon as possible.
