I took 7.5 mg (half tab 15 mg) mirtazapine. But, since 3 months, I have increased the dose to around 22 mg. Can I gradually decrease the dosage to minimal around 5 mg? I am using it only for sleep.

Hi lybrate-user. Tab mirtazipine is an antidepressant molecule and is prescribed only by a registered practitioner .at lower dosages, it has a more of sedative action due to binding with histamine receptors. The rationale of gradually hiking or tapering the dose depends on the the status of improvement or deterioration of symptoms and hence to be done strategically by a trained professional after the thorough assessment of the patient. As sudden reduction may lead to relapse of symptoms or other side effects. I would suggest you to seek a consultation from a trained mental health professional and let him/her decide what could be the best for you.
